Like other MMOs There aren't specific tanks or support unlike other MMOs, there are no strict tanks or supports in Lost Ark. There are tankier characters (like the Gunlancer, who can grant himself a personal shield, however, he does not have the dodge that other players have) and there are also characters who are able to help friends (like for instance, the Bard and Paladin which can offer bonuses to damage or shields for their teammates). But , all characters in Lost Ark can still deal with their fair share of harm.
Still, every subclass feels like it fills a specific niche. Gunslingers do massive damage but are extremely vulnerable when attacking and provide little utility for their team. The Martial Artist's advanced classes are designed for damage, but they also have additional advantages such as the ability to stagger bosses or more buffs for teammates.
Unfortunately, one of the game's most annoying flaws is the fact that subclasses are restricted by gender. You can only play male Scrappers, but to play Wardancer, you must play a female. It's a silly system, and certainly a major annoyance, but it doesn't ruin any aspect of the Lost Ark experience.
A good design for a class is a flawed alchemy. Each class is comprised of a variety of systems and ideas, which are woven together to produce something that's still fun for players with more than 100 hours of the game. Smilegate has these systems all over the place, starting with the game's foundational abilities. Most classes can use eight distinct abilities at any one time from their list of over 20.
