In the beginning of the eighties, as the world wide internet lit the gaming world with LAN party possibilities, a kind of fantasy game emerged that was called the MMORPG (or Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game for those who aren't experts.
These were games like World of Warcraft or Guild Wars which let you chat and explore with other players from all overthe world. all you needed was a semi-decent internet connection to do it. My favorite fantastical drug of choice was RuneScape it was a game that saw me and my brother joining forces to take on the Corporeal Beast as well as learn to cook an exquisite monkfish and play a few games of Gnome Ball.
That time of getting to home after school and playing on the shared computer and later our own computers but leaving our bedroom doors wide open to shouting strategies and plead for gold, were one of the most memorable experiences I was fortunate enough to experience growing up.
I've sporadically kept up with RuneScape in the past to ensure that my account from 2005 was in good condition. However, it wasn't until two months ago, when I got a message from a dear friend of my"Gamer Squad* that simply read, "I want to play runescape," which I began on my path to Gielinor.
