Madden 23 made its way to Xbox Game Pass a few months after its release

There have been times when EA had used NFL Draft as a platform for announcing the upcoming Madden game of the year. Madden 20 was announced on the first day of the 2019 NFL Draft in April, with EA revealing Kansas City Chiefs quarterback as the cover athlete. We were forced to wait until EA Play in the summer to experience the gameplay, however.

Madden 21 was revealed just a couple of days after the 2020 NFL Draft, but it took months before we finally got to actually play. We were told at the time it was announced that Lamar Jackson was going to be the game's cover player But that was all there was to it.

For Madden 23 EA took a completely different approach waiting to announce the game until June, just a few weeks before the game's release in August. Although it was the longest players have had to wait to see the game the game, it's possible it was something in it with the shift to the next-generation.

With the fact that EA has enjoyed a couple of years to explore and develop the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S which is possible that they will go back to their old routine of announcing each year's game around an NFL Draft. If this turns out as the situation, then we'll probably learn at the very least who the person who will play as the cover player of Madden 23 will be.

If EA makes the announcement, it's unlikely that we'll have any gameplay footage. That will probably come at EA Play in the summer. We'll probably see some sort of cover athlete promotional trailer, which hints at the overall theme of that year's tournament.
