Your sales team is the driving force of revenue in your business. Whether it is on the road, in the office, or on the sales floor, it is their interaction with your customers that brings money into your company. The relationship you build with them will bring you success in the long run. Here are a few tips for working with these employees.


Communication

Keep the lines between you and your sales team. Discuss ideas and strategies that they can utilize with new clients as well as their current ones. Be open to them when they have a problem and be willing to help them with it. Also encourage them to come to you if they need to talk about anything so that you gain their trust and show that you are invested in what they do when they visit customers. The more you and your staff communicate with each other, the happier of a workplace you will have.


Give Them Something To Work Towards

Your sales rep management should include setting clear goals for your team so that they know what you expect from them. It can be a certain number of transactions per month or a dollar amount. Explain exactly what you expect from them so they are aware of what they need to do for their position. Consider offering a reward for those who do reach the level you set up for them. This will encourage them to sell more and contact new customers for business. If a salesperson continually hits their mark, sit down with them and consider increasing the level you want them to be at.


Build a Team

There should be more members of your team than just those who are in sales. Collaborate members of your accounting, marketing, production, and other departments with sales so that they can work together. Encourage that they talk constantly with each other so that they will be on top of any issues before they get out of hand. Advocate between two groups that might be having problems with each other so that everyone acts like a unified group. Your company will run smoother with every person involved on the same page and communicating with each other.


Give Away Prizes

Along with bonuses, select a group of prizes for your sales staff to reward them when they do great things on the job. You should consider doing this for every department to show your support for your employees. They can be gift cards for a restaurant, movies, or the spa. You can also have lunch catered in for the staff or hold a treat day. Organize a picnic so your team members’ families can get together and socialize. The more opportunities you have to show your appreciation to your staff, the more successful and happier they will be.


Give Them the Tools That They Need

For a salesperson to be successful, they need the right tools to get the job done. Provide them with an organizational system to keep their customer’s information intact, whether it is with an appointment book, software on the computer, or through an application that they can download onto their phone. If they are on the road, get them a GPS unit so they can get from one client to the other. Also, provide a gas card to them so that they can fill their vehicle without using the money from their personal budget.


Provide Contacts To Them

While you may expect your sales staff to go out for cold calls to get new customers, any help you can provide to them will make them more successful. Work with your marketing group to compile a list then distribute it among your sales staff. Set up a brainstorming session to come up with places and people to talk to. Reach out to organizations that can put a customer list together for you and see what you will need to provide to them for them to produce it. Supporting your sales team will ultimately increase the profits for your company. Opening lines of communication to them, rewarding them for making their goals, and building a team with them and the rest of your employees will make their job easier and their sales more successful.
