The Famous Ray's Pizza — in Verona, NJ

To satisfy their pizza craving, many customers from Famous Ray's early years in Greenwich Village still make the trip from Manhattan to the current Verona location. "Our customers are connoisseurs of pizza" Famous Ray's is so good that the establishment earned a royal endorsement from the House of Windsor when Prince Charles paid a visit to the original Greenwich Village site during a trip to Manhattan. In fact, the publicity from that visit reached "across the pond," and soon after, a group from Oxford university students, pooled their money to place a transatlantic order from Famous Ray's. Carefully assembled and boxed 40 pizzas-- 19 pepperoni, 10 sausages and 11 mushroom--took off from JFK Airport bound for England: the longest takeout on record.
