Northwestern University, located on the shore of Lake Michigan, has cultivated excellent reputations for both athletics and education. Founded in 1851, the school was created to teach people who then lived in the Northwestern states, such as Ohio and Michigan. The college frequently ranks in the top 20 schools in the country for academics and the Northwestern Wildcats participate in the NCAA's Big Ten Conference. The school has a beautiful campus and the university offers tours. The University also has a secondary campus in downtown Chicago.
