A dentist is a doctor who specializes in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases of the teeth and oral cavity. They diagnose oral diseases, promote oral health, create treatment plans to maintain or restore the oral health of their patients. They can also interpret x-rays and diagnostic tests, ensure the safe administration of anesthetics and also monitor growth and development of the teeth and jaws. Dentists also perform surgical procedures on the teeth, bone and soft tissues of the oral cavity.
