Jewish Community Council of Washington Hgts in Inwood

The Jewish Community Council of Washington Heights-Inwood (JCC-WHI) was established in 1973 as a not-for-profit Community Based Organization, and in 1977 was incorporated as a 501 (c) the name Washington Heights-Inwood Preservation and Restoration Corporation (WHIPRC-JCC). The mission of the JCC-WHI is to preserve and restore the neighborhood of Washington Heights-Inwood. To this end, JCC-WHI offers a broad array of services for residents of all ages and backgrounds in order to improve the quality of life, provide vital social services, advocate for safe and affordable housing, address crime, and promote the socio-economic balance in the community. As part of this effort, JCC-WHI works with other local groups and agencies, as well as the police, community leaders and elected officials, to address broader neighborhood issues. The JCC-WHI works with individuals and families of all ages and backgrounds to help them lead independent lives and enhance their quality of life. We achieve these goals through JCC programs, case assistance provided by caring social workers, and entitlement assistance to access whatever help is available through various government or other agencies. The requests for help that we receive in our daily encounters at the office are very varied, and represent the cross-section of clients that we serve: "My lease is almost up and the rent will be increasing, but I have lost my job and cannot afford to pay it."
