All of us know about the harm of household chemicals. But even the most experienced housewife can’t tell why it’s not recommended to wash dishes, clean the rooms and do other household chores using them.

The Harm of Household Chemicals for Human Health

Household chemicals are the undoubted achievement of modern civilization. There is no housewife which can imagine cleaning without them. But often they underrate the damage which they can cause. For example, all washing powders contain polyphosphates, dangerous not only for our health but for the environment as well.

The number of washing detergents grows every day. They consist of components which are biologically aggressive. They can lead to developing such diseases as dermatitis, allergy, bronchial asthma, and even fibroids. As a result, you fill your house with many chemicals and provoke the development of diseases.

Also, household chemicals are dangerous because excessive consumption of them destroys useful microflora and is one of the main allergens. It causes cough, rush, irritation. The reason for cough often is powdery remedies and aerosols. After using such remedies, they remain in the air, which we inhale as a result. But many chemical products we can replace with natural ones.

What Substances in Household Chemicals Are Harmful

You should avoid products which consist of the following chemicals:

  • Ammonium - it’s the main ingredient of all products for cleaning mirrors, windows, ceramic tiles, plumbing. Cooperation with chlorine leads to the liberation of toxic chlorine gas.

  • Anionic surfactants - used in washing liquids and powders. This substance can cause immunity disorders, allergies, damage to the brain, liver, kidneys, and lungs. Even rinsing dishes in hot water multiple times can’t clean it of chemicals completely.

  • Oil distillates - contained in polishers for metallic surfaces and can damage eyes and the central nervous system. 

  • Phenols and cresols - caustic germicides which cause diarrhea, dizziness, loss of consciousness and impaired kidney and liver function.

  • Formaldehyde - it’s a very strong cancerogenic substance which leads to irritation of the eyes, throat, skin, respiratory tract and lungs.

  • Phosphates - it is prohibited in many countries. In addition to environmental pollution, it also activates the development of cancer cells in the human’s body. Consuming water polluted with phosphates lead to cancer of the gastrointestinal tract.

  • Chlorium - it’s a very dangerous substance. It can be the reason for problems with the cardiovascular system or developing of atherosclerosis, anemia, hypertension, allergic reactions. It damage skin and hair, increase the risk of developing cancer in all its forms. 

Natural Cleaning Substitutes for Home

1. Borax has wonderful cleaning properties and prevents mold formation.

2. Lemon juice removes rust, fat stains on clothes and dishes, and also used for washing windows.

3. Vinegar is a natural cleaning product for home, it removes spots and scum, disinfects, effectively cleans tile.

4. Essential oils and essences can be used instead of chemical air fresheners.

5. Water can be used for rinsing instead of chemical conditioners for linen.
